☕ Annual Legislative Breakfast at Duncan Middle School ☕

This morning, Duncan Middle School hosted our annual Legislative Breakfast, welcoming State Senators Spencer Kern and Kendal Sacchieri along with State Representative Stacy Jo Adams.

Our guests shared updates on current legislation and took time to listen to our staff’s thoughts and concerns about education. Following breakfast, they visited Mr. Miller’s Journalism class, where they spoke about life as legislators and answered thoughtful questions from students.

Mr. Miller’s students have been working on projects to learn more about their legislators and truly enjoyed the opportunity to meet them in person.

We appreciate our state leaders for taking the time to connect with our staff and students and for their continued support of public education!

🧪 7th Grade STEM Students Visit Duncan Regional Hospital! 🏥

Our 7th grade STEM students enjoyed a fun and educational day at Duncan Regional Hospital! They learned about proper glove techniques, IVs, and even practiced their skills by stitching up an injured orange.

A highlight of the day was the medical PPE relay. This was a fun new addition that had everyone laughing and learning!

We’re grateful for the continued partnership with DRH and their fantastic staff for providing such meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Our students had a great day!

📣 Duncan High School Internship Applications Due February 20th
For Current Sophomores & Juniors (Next Year’s Juniors & Seniors Only)

Students & Parents — applications are now open for the Duncan High School Pathways to Future Careers Internship Program for the upcoming school year!

This program gives students the chance to gain real-world, hands-on experience in a career field of interest while still in high school.

What to know:
• Students leave campus for two class periods each day to intern with a local business or organization
• This is a for-credit academic class, not just a release period
• Students attend class weekly and complete reflections and career-readiness assignments

Who can apply?
Students who will be juniors or seniors next year.

Admission is based on readiness and responsibility. Students must:
✔ Maintain C’s or higher in all classes
✔ Have good attendance
✔ Demonstrate positive behavior and dependability
✔ Show maturity in a professional setting

Expectations once accepted:
Students are expected to treat this like a real job — communicate directly with supervisors, be on time, stay engaged, follow dress codes, and maintain strong grades and attendance. Failure to meet expectations may result in removal from the program.

Why this program matters:
Students gain valuable workplace experience, build resumes, develop professional references, explore career paths, and grow in confidence and independence. Many students even build connections that lead to future job opportunities.

How to apply:
1️⃣ Pick up an application
2️⃣ Complete all sections carefully
3️⃣ Turn it in by February 20th

Spots are limited and placements are based on student readiness, interests, and available community partners.

Students with questions should stop by Room 142 to visit Mrs. Prichard.

This program is a privilege and an incredible step toward the future. We’re excited to help students explore careers, grow, and gain real-world experience!
